March 16, 2021
Produced by Gerard Way, “The Umbrella Academy” is an action-packed series featuring sarcastic sort-of superheroes. It has been released as a Netflix Original based on the comic series written by Gerard Way himself. The first season was released Feb. 19, 2019 and the third season of this franchise is planned to be released later this year. Season 2, released last July, is a thrilling precedent for what’s in store for the next one.
“The Umbrella Academy” stars seven super-powered siblings played by Aidan Gallagher, Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Justin Min and Emmy Raver-Lampman. The protagonists find themselves teaming up to fight against an apocalypse after a grim family reunion. While getting to know each other after years apart, the family of misfits uncover the secrets of their true origins.
The siblings, Luther, Diego, Allison, Number Five, Klaus, Ben and Vanya, find themselves trying to prevent the end of the world after meeting for their father’s funeral. United again, they discover truths about their father and secrets among themselves.
In our most recent season, the group’s attempts to save the world landed them in the 1960s. Zapped back to the ’60s and separated from each other, they seek to reunite again to get back to the present. However, they are pursued by assassins who are out to prevent them from ever meeting again.
In the next season, the seven of them return to the present, but since they changed the past (even getting involved with the assassination of JFK), there are huge changes in the world that they used to know.
In the upcoming season, we’re expecting an entirely new cast (along with Justin Min as Ben) playing the members of the newly introduced “Sparrow Academy.” The Sparrow Academy now serves as sort of counterparts for the Umbrella Academy, and now the main cast must sort out what their new present has in store for them.
“The Umbrella Academy” proves to be a promising and creatively diverse show. The soundtrack sets the tone for each pivotal scene, and the characters show depth in their personal lives, inter-personal and familial relationships, and their identities as members of the Umbrella Academy. The show thoroughly characterizes its protagonists, and the action scenes are breathtakingly inventive. With special effects and intense choreography, each scene is unique. Overall, “The Umbrella Academy” is a solid show with a captivating story-line and well developed characters.
