Silverado Stories
Journalism students share various high school experiences from first semester of 2022-23 school year
Landen Munns, Co-Editor in Chief
At mid-term, journalism students were tasked with writing a story about a class, an activity or an experience at high school to help show what school is like for a range of Silverado students. Students mainly wrote about their elective classes and teachers who have made a difference in their lives. Here are some of their stories.
Varsity Quiz has phenomenal season
A small team of students has been participating in Varsity Quiz, which is a competition testing academic knowledge on a range of topics. In silence, competitors rack their brains for answers about literature, geography, government, science, history and anything else there is to know. Pencils scratch on paper as students perform calculations, trying to beat the handful of silent seconds until the bel...
Pavlides’ Civic Action Project continues to thrive
This year, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of the upper-level seniors taking honors and AP U.S. Government with Mrs. Melanie Pavlides. By the end of the year, we must complete the civic action project, consisting of dozens of acts of service and events to participate in the local community and government. Seniors must reach 50 points by the project’s due date in May. Activities such as...
Skyhawks celebrate Christmas early with spirit week
Christmas is now starting to come closer and quicker than ever imagined. From Dec. 5-9, Silverado High School held another spirit week with dress-up days and an assembly right before the week final exams came across all Skyhawks. The assembly was held on Friday, Dec. 9 to announce the winter sports. There were some mini-games included as well with the cheerleaders and dancers performing their Ch...
Day in the life of a journalism student
Journalism at first was a class that was just chosen for me because of complications with my electives, and I didn’t know whether or not I would like it. There were unknown factors for me as a freshman last year coming into this class, but I didn’t focus on that. This class was and presently is enjoyable. Between writing stories that I feel like writing to doing interactive activities as a cla...
History of popular music isn’t ‘just music’
For some, the highlight of their school day is leaving campus after the final bell rings for dismissal. However, mine is just before: seventh period, or the history of pop music with Nick Pavlides. Posters featuring the greatest artists in music history such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and The Ramones greet students as soon as they step into room 800. Even a life-size poster c...
Mr. Young makes psychology class rewarding
I walked into high school as just a student mainly interested in psychology. Walking into my psychology class on the first day of school was scary because I wanted the class to be a good fit for me. I had no idea if the teacher, Michael Young, was nice or mean or a good teacher in general, so I went into the class completely clueless. After the first day of school, the more I came to Mr. Young's cl...
Forensic Science offers great opportunities
Forensic Science is taught here at Silverado High School by Natasha Eric. It is a three-year course, the first two being regular Forensic Ⅰ and Ⅱ then Ⅲ. Right now I am in Forensic Ⅰ, which has changed my perspective on life and has made me smarter. Ever since I found out Silverado had a forensics program, I wanted to be in it. Unfortunately, when I applied my freshman year, I didn’t g...
