Senior Madeline Pojar works hard as this year’s orchestra council president.
“I show up to every event, help plan concerts and fundraisers, lead the class when Ms. Riedy is sick, etc,” said Pojar. “Most importantly, I support my fellow classmates as much as I can because without encouragement, there is no improvement or friendships among the community.”
Pojar is very excited to lead the orchestra this year. She said she hopes for the orchestra to make a big statement for the school by playing in public, winning awards and having school support.
“With full orchestra this year, I think it will be a really great opportunity for both band and orchestra to experience different music styles and prepare for future music careers,” Pojar said.
Pojar has enjoyed playing the violin in orchestra for six years, since she was in sixth grade.
“Music is my entire life; I can’t live without it,” Pojar said. “Orchestra is my second family, and my violin is my best friend.”
In addition to being orchestra president, Pojar is concertmaster of the chamber orchestra, the highest orchestra at Silverado. She helps the whole orchestra tune and leads the first violins. She also plays the violin solo at the concert.
“Playing an instrument and playing with other people is a special experience that not everyone gets,” Pojar said. “You make new friends and learn new skills, and we go on trips and have as much fun as possible.”
Pojar said that making friends has not always been easy for her, but that being a part of orchestra has brought her out of her shell.
“I may not be able to speak in front of people, but the music speaks for me, and says everything I’ve ever wanted to say,” Pojar explained. “I love being on a stage, and there is nothing more satisfying than getting lost in the music and letting other people enjoy what I am doing.”
Pojar hopes to make the orchestra a bigger community where students can work together and “truly enjoy and feel the music we are playing.” Pojar will help lead the orchestra this year through several concerts, fundraisers, activities and a trip to Universal Studios.
