Each year, Skyhawks get to reminisce on their year full of laughter, silliness, and joy when flipping through the pages of the yearbook. The industrious editor behind it all is senior Venicia Guariglia.
However, Guariglia wasn’t always the editor. She started out being just a reporter, and in her junior year, she was promoted to chief photographer.
With her high school career finishing up, she is now proudly ending it with the largest responsibility of all: editor-in-chief.
Guariglia perceives the task of publishing the yearbook as an opportunity to understand the qualities of the school itself. She also sees it as a chance for inspiration, as she gets a grasp of the inner workings of the student body.
“Photographing the events and being with people that you enjoy being around is my favorite part,” she said.
Even with the pressure of getting the yearbook done before the end of the year, the yearbook room never becomes a toxic environment, despite all the stress on the crew’s hands. In fact, Guariglia’s motivation stems from the support of her peers rather than being put down.
“We all push each other when things get hard, and when one of us gets flustered, we pick up each other’s slack so no one is falling behind,” Guariglia states.
Guariglia’s dedication to keeping her and the yearbook staff in order is truly incredible. Outside of school, she has a job, which interferes with the amount of energy she has each day. However, she still successfully manages her time as she is constantly staying after school when she needs to work on the yearbook. This goes to show how persistent Guariglia is and how uplifting she is for anyone going through the same struggle.
After high school, Guariglia intends to move out of Nevada. However, she would like to start her life after high school by attending the College of Southern Nevada. She then plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in criminal justice while also playing softball.
Guariglia’s work ethic loudly indicates how much of a catalyst she is. Her commitment and diligence towards the yearbook add a well-respected aura around her.
Next time Skyhawks take a look at the yearbook, they should remember and admire the hard work students like Guariglia have put behind it.
