Silverado’s administration said they would like to “extend our heartfelt congratulations and deepest gratitude to the dedicated teachers who have supervised clubs and extracurricular activities throughout the year.” Over the past year, Silverado clubs and activities participated in over 2,586 hours of community service, including some of these highlights listed below.
Our Book Club participated in Nevada Reading Week by reading to students at Cartwright Elementary. Students from the Boys’ Basketball Program, Black Student Union (BSU), and Ladyhawks Spirit Team were also in attendance.
Students participated in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State competition. Participants took home a gold medal for Kitchen Crimes and 10 silver medals for knife skills, cake decorating, safety, and sanitation. Students received a $500.00 reward for their program. Students from FCCLA also participated in Empty Bowls and were recognized at the State Competition for community involvement.
Army JROTC earned the Honor Unit with Distinction award. This is the highest unit award in JROTC. Students competed in five drill competitions, 1 parade, completed 250 hours of community service, and provided support to elementary school events.
Student Council hosted the 11th Annual Empty Bowls event and fundraised enough money to provide 48,000 meals through the Three Square organization. This year was the largest attended event with over 900 people in attendance. This event was organized in collaboration with the SHS National Art Honor Society, the Nevada Clay Guild, and SHS FFCLA students. This year, 6 students were selected to present at Nevada Association of Student Council events. This year, the Student Council earned the National Gold Council of Excellence (20 consecutive years), Silver Star, and Southern Star. Silverado student, Diego Ramirez, was the Nevada State President for Student Council. Currently, Silverado has a student running for a National Council position. She is one of two students, nationally, who was selected to apply.
During the Las Vegas Review Journal’s 46th High School Journalism Awards, SBN News earned 2nd place in Best Student Produced Newscast
The SkillsUSA club has tripled in size over the last two years. At the Nevada State competition, students earned a silver medal in Video Production which is the first known Video Production medal in Silverado history. Our community service teams earned a silver medal and a bronze medal. Sophia Booth won a gold medal in customer service, and forensics students earned a bronze medal.
The Silverado Star student newspaper (Journalism Club) won several awards at the Las Vegas Review Journal High School Journalism Awards contest including Saliye Demarchena with 3 awards: First Place – Best Illustration, First Place – Best Editorial Cartoon, and Second Place – Best Feature Photo. Charlotte Hong won Third Place – Best Entertainment Story. Naomi Jackson won Second Place – Best Headline.
The Ladyhawks Spirit team attended two State Competitions. Our duet, Giuliana Benedict and Eden Lemburg, won the State Championship. The Ladyhawks Spirit team won the State Championship for Pom Routine and earned Second Place for Game Day Routine.
Our Talon Yearbook was featured in the Jostens 2025 Look Book for Talon vol. 30 (a national inspiration book). This year, the Talon Yearbook won the Jostens Silver Award for vol. 31.
And finally, the National Honor Society was awarded a $750 scholarship for the second consecutive year due to continued success with the Vitalant Blood Drive.
