The Silverado Skyhawks went out hard against Cimarron-Memorial on Aug. 18 winning 38-0.
Although the Skyhawks won, the game was seemingly doomed from the start.
Being one out of the four games that ended up being played in the district that night due to the weather, the original kick-off was 6 p.m. Before the game began, however, the Silverado community received six messages of updated game delay due to lightning.
“Overall, we had some doubts, but we ultimately knew we were gonna play,” said defensive attack Diego Garcia (12).
Determined to play, the Skyhawks finally made it to the field at 8 p.m.
The Skyhawks were making plays to finish the first quarter on a running clock with a leading score of 15-0.
Second quarter was delayed due to a severe injury on the 10-yard line.
Third quarter, the Skyhawks came back and continued to lead the game, ending the third with 21-0.
Officer Oreo stopped by the game during the third quarter, making plenty of new friends.
The rest of the game was played on a running clock, with the Skyhawks finishing the game and beginning the season with a shutout of 38-0.
